How Montana Guide Service Began

Edwin Johnson grew up in Denver, Colorado. Being a Colorado native, Edwin was accustomed to the adventures of the Rocky Mountains which he was always pushing to new limits. After being an Aspen, CO natural foods store business owner and pioneering Vail ski patrolman, Edwin soon found himself drawn to the Pacific shores in California. He started yet another successful company which provided security services in and around the Los Angles area. After his adventures there, he decided to head back to the great heights of the Northern Rockies. Edwin had the opportunity to buy some land near Gardiner, MT in the lovely Mol Heron Creek Canyon Basin. He decided to start another business providing quality elk hunts and other guided tours of the area on an adjacent larger ranch and the public land surrounding it. Soon afterwards, he also started a family with his wife, Ronalee. They ran the business and raised their two sons, Edward and Nicholas on their guest ranch property. Montana Guide Service has now been in business for over 30 years and is a proud supporter of local, regional and national conservation and hunting rights efforts and organizations. The land we hunt is some of the best wild habitat for elk in the world. Our fair-chase hunts have brought fulfilling experiences of a lifetime and hundreds of awards and trophies. Our clientele has included professional sports team owners, astronauts, famous doctors and scientists, and Fortune 500 executives. And Edwin and his family are happy to have done it all with the same Montana hospitality and down-to-earth friendliness that makes the people of this state so great. Now in 2017, Montana Guide Service is entering a new chapter with a fresh website, more partnerships, and exclusive lodging and adventure offerings. But we’ll do it it with the same Montana sprit. Come and hunt with us, stay with us, and allow us to be your guides to the vast adventures of Yellowstone Country.
